Muslim and Arab Quebecers are asked to exercise their right and vote on December 8th, 2008 in Québec Election
(Montreal, December 4, 2008) The Canadian Muslim Forum (FMC-CMF) and Parole Arabe (PA) call on Muslim and Arab citizens of Quebec to exercise their right to vote on December 8th, 2008, in Québec Election. Voting is a defence of democracy and an effective way to protect your rights and civil liberties.
“Elections are an opportunity for each of us, whether belonging to a specific ethnic or religious community or not, to express our concerns. We equally encourage all citizens to vote for the candidate and the party that stand for what they believe in.” said Houssam Badran, spokesperson for the Canadian Muslim Forum (FMC-CMF).
“We also encourage all Arab and Muslim Quebecers to raise their concerns with the candidates and to judge those who are already members of the National Assembly by what they did, not only what they promise!” said Ehab Lotayef, spokesperson for Parole Arabe (PA).
The Canadian Muslim Forum (FMC-CMF) and Parole Arabe (PA) remind you of the importance of your vote and that it is crucial in protecting your rights, and ask you to learn more about the candidates in your riding and to vote for those who confront Islamophobia, racial profiling and all forms of discrimination.
Participate in large numbers in the electoral process on December 8, 2008. Remember that every vote counts and that your vote and your participation in the electoral process play an important role in establishing the rightful place for your community in the Quebec society.

Les québécois musulmans et arabes sont appelé à exercer leur droit et voter au élection provinciale le 8 Décembre 2008
(Montréal, le 4 décembre, 2008) Le Forum musulman canadien et Parole arabe, appellent les québécois musulmans et arabes à exercer leur droit de vote au élection provinciale le 8 Décembre 2008.
Nous encourageons tous les citoyens d’exercer leur droit de vote pour protéger la démocratie, et c’est une autre manière efficace de se faire entendre et de protéger leurs droits et libertés civiles.
« L’élection est une occasion pour exprimer les inquiétudes de notre communautés et de la société québécoise dans l’ensemble, nous encourageons tous les citoyens de toutes les confessions et croyances de voter pour le candidat et le parti qui comblera leurs besoins » a déclaré Houssam Badran, porte parole du Forum musulman canadien.
« Nous encourageons aussi tous les Québécois, Arabes et Musulmans à soulever leurs inquiétudes avec les candidats et les élus et les juger sur ce qu’ils ont fait et non pas sur ce qu’ils ont promis! » a ajouté Ehab Lotayef, porte parole de Parole arabe.
Le Forum musulman canadien et Parole arabe vous rappellent l’importance de ce vote et que c’est cruciale pour la défense de nos droits et de nos libertés et vous demandent de savoir plus sur les candidats de vos circonscriptions, de voter pour les candidats qui n’encourage pas l’Islamophobie, le profilage raciale ou toutes autres sortes de discriminations.

Un message spécial du Forum Musulman Canadien (FMC-CMF) à tous les Canadiens à la veille du Pèlerinage et de la Eid Al Adha
Montréal, le 2 décembre 2008– À la veille du Pèlerinage et de la Eid Al Adha 1429, les membres du conseil d’administration du Forum Musulman Canadien félicitent ses membres, la communauté musulmane et tous les Canadiens.
En tant que musulmans canadiens, nous croyons que ces milliers de musulmans performants le pèlerinage, soit un acte de croyance démontrant le véritable visage de l’Islam, envoient un message et une leçon d’unité qui est bénéfique à toute la population.
L’accomplissement du pèlerinage est un acte d’adoration et de soumission à Dieu seul. Lorsque nous voyons des millions de femmes et d’hommes provenant de différents coins du monde qui se rejoignent vers un point commun afin d’accomplir le Pèlerinage et de se soumettre à Dieu, nous constatons cette union entre les peuples du monde, qui reflète en soi les valeurs d’Islam.
Pourtant, il est malheureux que, pendant que nous devrions célébrer cette fête dans la paix et le bonheur, nous sommes aussi attristés par la souffrance continue des gens de Gaza où plus de 1.5 millions sont sous le siège et leur souffrance est soutenue par notre gouvernement.
Nous espérons que tous les Canadiens célébreront ce jour férié dans l’harmonie. Un jour férié qui est suivi par la célébration de Noël de nos amis de confession chrétienne. Ces célébrations montrent l’unité de tous les Canadiens, mais une unité qui est fracassée par la montée d’Islamophobia.
En cette occasion de miséricorde et de bénédiction, le FMC-CMF demande au gouvernement fédéral d’aider à alléger la souffrance du peuple Palestinien, d’intervenir dans le cas Omar Khadr et de le rapatrier chez nous au Canada et de mettre fin à notre implication militaire en Afghanistan qui ne répond pas aux intérêts des Canadiens.
Nous vous souhaitons une merveilleuse célébration de la Eid !

The Canadian Muslim Forum’s (FMC-CMF) special message to all Canadians on the eve of the Hajj and Eid Al Adha celebration
Montréal, December 2nd, 2008 – On the eve of Hajj (Pilgrimage) and Eid Al Adha 1429, the Canadian Muslim Forum’s board of director, congratulates its members, the Muslim community and all Canadians.
As Muslim Canadians, we believe that while millions of Muslims are performing Hajj, this act of worship portrays the true message of Islam, a message and lesson for Unity. A lesson that if each of us applies it would benefit the entire population.
Performing Pilgrimage for a Muslim is an act of worship obeying God and surrendering to no one else but Him. To see waves of men and women from all over the world coming together for this Pilgrimage and to offer their sacrifices to God, this union in itself reflects the values of Islam.
However, it’s unfortunate that while we should be celebrating in peace and happiness, we are also saddened by the continuous suffering of the people of Gaza where over 1.5 million are under siege and their suffering is supported by our government.
We hope that all Canadians will celebrate this holiday in harmony. A holiday which is followed by our Christian friend’s Christmas celebration. These celebrations show the unity of all Canadians but a unity which is shattered by the rising of Islamophobia.
In this special occasion of mercy and blessings, the FMC-CMF calls on the Federal Government to help easing the suffering of the Palestinian people, to intervene and bring Omar Khadr back home. And to end its military involvement in Afghanistan that serves no Canadian interest in any way.

The Canadian Muslim Forum (FCM-CMF) congratulates you on your agreement to form and support a coalition government as a way out of the dangerous situation the current minority government has put our county in.
While we are feeling the heat of the international economic meltdown, created largely by the irresponsible polices of the outgoing US government, we, Canadians, are in need of responsible politicians who will put the wellbeing of people ahead of partisan politics and ideological beliefs. The need is for politicians who are willing to approach this crisis wisely and are willing to also seize the opportunity to correct the democratic deficit we are staring to witness.
Canadian people are looking for a leadership that respects their will, defends their interest, and secures their future. They are looking for a government that will protect their savings, safeguard the environment, create jobs and maintain social services.
Furthermore, Canadians are looking for a government that will repair the damage done to their countryʼs international image as a peace keeper and a promoter of justice . A government that doesn’t abandon its citizens when they are subjected to injustice anywhere in the world.
We congratulate the three of you, not as a reflection of a partisan position, but as a reaction to taking a step which we believe is in the interest of our country, each and every one of us.
We hope that you would continue to cooperate selflessly and that the parliament will face the current crisis with efficiency and wisdom.

Le Forum musulman canadien (FMC-CMF) applaudit le geste que les trois partis d’opposition fédéraux ont fait de former un gouvernement de coalition pour sortir le pays de la position économique dangereuse dans laquelle nous a mise le gouvernement minoritaire actuel .
Tandis que nous constatons l’effondrement économique international, créée en grande partie par les politiques irresponsables du gouvernement sortant des États-Unis, nous, Canadiens et Canadiennes, avons besoin de politiciens responsables qui mettront le bien-être du peuple canadien et québécois en avant de la politique partisane et des croyances idéologiques. Il nous faut des politiciens prêts à approcher cette crise avec sagesse et à corriger le déficit démocratique dont nous sommes témoins.
Le peuple canadien recherche un leader qui respecte leur volonté, défend leurs intérêts et prépare convenablement leur avenir. Il recherche un gouvernement qui protégera leurs épargnes, sauvegardera l’environnement, créera des emplois et maintiendra les services sociaux.
En outre, les Canadiens et Canadiennes recherchent un gouvernement qui agira conformément à l’image traditionnelle du Canada comme pays valorisant la paix et la justice. Ils et elles recherchent un gouvernement qui n’abandonne pas ses citoyens soumis à l’injustice dans les prisons étrangères.
Nous vous félicitons tous les trois, non pas de manière partisane mais pour votre réaction à vos gestes qui, selon nous, sont dans l’intérêt de tous et de toutes.
Nous espérons que vous continueraient de coopérer de manière désintéressée et que le Parlement affrontera la crise actuelle avec sagesse et efficacité.

Dear Mme Governor General
Mme Michaelle Jean,
As a Canadian Citizen I ask you to allow the Liberal-NDP Coalition to form a government in the House, supported by the Bloc Québécois, and not to support the Conservative’s request to prorogue the government, if it is asked for.
This Coalition, as you are well aware represent 62% of the voters, so they are more legitimate than the minority voted by the 38% of Canadians, Stephen Harper’s chosen to act as though he has 100% of the power. Instead of working with other parties to tackle the current economic crisis, Harper’s opted for total inaction and political tricks. And now he’s lost the confidence of Parliament.
Allowing the opposition parties to form a government is constitutionally valid, as you know better than I, but proroguing the house so early in the session is unprecedented. Furthermore, Canadians do not want to go into an election, and if we have another vote, we very well may end up in the same situation as we now are in.
I ask you to support the Coalition.

On the eve of the 60th anniversary of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, CMF hopes that all human being will benefit from it
The Canadian Muslim Forum (FMC-CMF) issued a Press Release on the eve of the 60th anniversary of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. We are underlining the importance of this declaration and we hope that all human being will benefit from it.
“Although the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights exists since 60 years already, we still do not a complete application of this deceleration” said Mohamed S. Kamel, CMF’s president. He also mentions that “half of the population is still suffering of discrimination and racism due to the negligence of this valuable declaration”
“Unfortunately the use of this Declaration of Human Rights became more and more politicized, where you need the power at your side to force the application of its concept” added CMF’s president. “ We in the Canadian Muslim Forum, as well as all human rights defender, believe that the only way to establish peace and a just life is by the complete application of declaration’s principal.”
The Canadian Muslim Forum (FMC-CMF) reminds everyone that this full application will never see the light unless we all work for it and defend our rights. We should not forget that we have a great responsibility to defend our rights and those of others, even if we do not share the same point of views or believes.
The Canadian Muslim Forum (FMC-CMF) hope that everyone, including the governmental and non-governmental organizations will seize this opportunity to renew our commitment to the principal of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights and to work harder to establish a real understating and equality between people.

À la veille du 60e anniversaire de la Déclaration universelle des droits de l’homme, le FMC espère que toute l’humanité en bénéficie
À la veille du 60e anniversaire de la Déclaration universelle des droits de l’homme, le Forum musulman canadien (FMC-CMF) a publié un communiqué de presse. Nous voulons souligner l’importance de cette déclaration et nous espérons que toute l’humanité en bénéficie.
«Bien que la déclaration universelle des droits de l’homme existe depuis 60 ans déjà, nous n’avons toujours pas une application complète de ces droits» a déclaré Mohamed S. Kamel, président du FMC. Il ajoute également que «la moitié de la population souffre encore de discrimination et de racisme dû à la négligence de cette déclaration si précieuse.»
«Malheureusement, Cette déclaration des droits de l’homme est devenue de plus en plus politisée où vous auriez besoin du pouvoir à vos côtés pour l’application de ces droits» a ajouté le président du FMC. «Le Forum musulman canadien, ainsi que tous les défenseurs des droits de l’homme, croient réellement que le seul moyen d’instaurer la paix et la justice est par le respect de cette déclaration.»
Le Forum musulman canadien (FMC-CMF) rappelle à tous que la déclaration universelle des droits de l’homme ne pourra jamais voir la lumière à moins que nous travaillions tous très fort pour défendre nos droits. Nous ne devons pas oublier que nous avons une grande responsabilité de défendre nos droits et ceux des autres, même si nous ne partageons pas les mêmes points de vue ou croyances.
Le Forum musulman canadien (FMC-CMF) espère que tout le monde, y compris les organisations gouvernementales et non gouvernementales saisiront cette occasion pour renouveler notre engagement envers le principe de la déclaration universelle des droits de l’homme et à travailler plus fort pour l’établissement d’une véritable compréhension de la déclaration et pour l’égalité entre les peuples.

The Canadian Muslim Forum (FMC-CMF) supports and recommends the initiative of the Quebec Farmers Association on World Foods research and call for entire community to encourage them and participate in the research program “Investigating the potential to involve English-speaking members of Quebec’s ethno-cultural populations in agriculture and food production” with an ultimate goal is to identify and produce “world foods” that would be of interest and demand to our ethno-cultural communities given that some of the foods which may be typically part of their preferred diets might either be difficult to access or are notably expensive.
The Project:
“The project has been to first get a better sense of the ethno-cultural profile and communities in Quebec (including demographic information, geographic concentrations, cultural and language representation, educational backgrounds and status and area of employment as some indicators). Part of this process has been a formal research study complemented by a survey which was sent to over 300 ethno-cultural community organizations (from which we have received moderate response – but very promising feedback). We are also aiming to identify and engage between half a dozen and a dozen leaders from these communities to become engaged and support the idea. The program could also have potential employment opportunities for members of these communities and create linkages with Quebec’s agri-business through the QFA.”
