In the era of corporate media, discriminatory globalization, "anti-terrorism" legislations, and infringements on civil rights, the need for media offering an alternative perspective to the biased, stereotyping and hate and war-promoting coverage has become increasingly urgent and essential to preserving freedom of expression and civil liberties.

‘I Support the Coalition’, Says Human Rights Activist and NGO President and Spokesperson

Dear Mme Governor General

Mme Michaelle Jean,

As a Canadian Citizen I ask you to allow the Liberal-NDP Coalition to form a government in the House, supported by the Bloc Québécois, and not to support the Conservative’s request to prorogue the government, if it is asked for.

This Coalition, as you are well aware represent 62% of the voters, so they are more legitimate than the minority voted by the 38% of Canadians, Stephen Harper’s chosen to act as though he has 100% of the power. Instead of working with other parties to tackle the current economic crisis, Harper’s opted for total inaction and political tricks. And now he’s lost the confidence of Parliament.

Allowing the opposition parties to form a government is constitutionally valid, as you know better than I, but proroguing the house so early in the session is unprecedented. Furthermore, Canadians do not want to go into an election, and if we have another vote, we very well may end up in the same situation as we now are in.

I ask you to support the Coalition.

Thank you for your time and for taking the Canadian wellbeing into your consideration
